Uninstall Vmware Tools Blue Screen
Details: Blue Screen Errors after Installing VMware Tools (41) Details. I installed VMware Tools in my Windows guest operating system. Hoping for a little help on this. I have a Win8.1 system whereupon I used to have Client Hyper-V installed as a hypervisor. I had installed VMWare Workstation 11 but no guest machines would start while the Hyper-V role was present. I uninstalled Hyper-V, rebooted, and was able to boot a Win7 VM.
However, there are some strange things going on.Bridged networking doesn't work - the guest has a link-local autoconfig'd address and can't see any other system.Windows Update fails repeatedly to get updates from WSUS or Microsoft.Upon trying to uninstall VMWare Workstation, I get a BSOD on the host with either a KERNELSECURITYCHECKFAILURE error or an NDIS.SYS error. I checked Event Viewer and found a reference to Hyper-V virtual switches, so I rooted around in Device Manager. I recalled an issue I had with a Hyper-V-ESXi migration I did where the guest machine ended up with about 20 NICs, most of which were TAP-Win32 OAS adapters. I noticed a few of these and went to uninstall one, thinking it was related.
It may well be, because as soon as I tried to remove the device I got another NDIS.SYS bluescreen. Currently I'm stuck in a state where guest VMs don't connect over bridged networking, I can't uninstall VMWare Workstation, I can't reinstall VMWare Workstation from the installer.exe (same result as the uninstall - BSOD) and I don't have a restore point that was before both Hyper-V and VMWare.
Sorry, meant to update this last night but I was exhausted and had to crash. I got it working. I had to use a registry hack to enable the Windows Installer service to run when booted into Safe Mode. Once I did that, I rebooted into Safe Mode, uninstalled Workstation 11, removed all but my physical network adapter from Device Manager, rebooted normally and was able to reinstall Workstation successfully. After that I put my PIA VPN and TeamViewer clients back in and everything seems (.knocks frantically on nearest object resembling wood.) to be working okay. Hi, thanks for the link.
Sorry if I sounded hostile before, actually it was not hard to find the same thing on google but I was just frustrated already:) Upgrading from 11 to 11.1, I got this same error. Anyway, I didn't even have to do the windows installer thing. I followed the instructions on this page: The%uFEFF%uFEFFstep about removing the network devices, I was not able to do this without going in Safe Mode, as it gave me the windows 8 BSOD with the sad face every time. In safe mode with networking it worked. After that, and following the rest of the steps I was able to upgrade BUT I still got the error installing VM ware tools. The KB article does not cover how to cleanup after a failed VM ware tools install, so I have a partly uninstalled vmware tools in the same way, and I cant install the new vmware tools on my machine. I'm assuming the process is similar but I need to figure out which registry entries are for vmware tools inorder to do this.

So it's a bit annoying that the MSI just gives up if you have a partial install, there should be a repair option or something which just re-installed over whatever you have. So yeah, currently I am without vmware tools. Probably I can figure out how to fix it, but the guide should be updated. Also, there is a potential bug inside the vmware network driver which causes it to not be able to be removed on certain machines without going into safemode due to kernal security error.
