I ran into trouble using Win 7 with a CX400. Taken from this. The correct terminal settings are: 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, 115200 baud Start by adding the following modem to you admin machine: Under your control panel- Phone and Modem options, click add, select 'Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list.' Click next, Under the manufacturers list select 'Standard Modem Types', under models select 'Communication cable between two computers'. Then add a dial up connection as follows: Control Panel - Network and Dial Up Connections - Make new Connection - Connect Directly to another computer - Guest - Select device 'Communications between two computers(COM1, or whatever COM your serial is using)'. Give it any name (CX500) and finish.

The connect dialog will open, click properties, general tab, configure, set Max Speed to 11520, make sure the Enable hardware Flow control is checked. Click the Networking tab, PPP should appear. Click settings, enable LCP Extentions and Enable Software compression, click OK, TCPIP properties are to obtain IP and DNS automatically, use default gateway on remote network. Click Ok a bunch of times to save the settings.
