Insufficient Memory Run 16 Bit Windows Program

Insufficient Memory Run 16 Bit Windows Program Average ratng: 3,6/5 352 reviews

I play a game called Baldur's gate. Have been for years and on this same system I have now. I recently decided to fo a fresh install. I removed everything from my system and proceeded with the install. Inserting the first disc in the drive I received the following error which has never happened before. Can’t run 16-bit Windows program Insufficient memory to run this application. Quit one or more Windows applications and then try again.

  1. 16 Bit Binary
  2. 16 Bit Swine Flu
  3. 16 Bit Myspace

What could be causing this error to appear when it hasn't appeared before? I run Windows XP with sp 3.

I am trying t o install a game on my Windows XP system and when I insert the CD and click insttall I get the following error message: 'Can't run 16-bit.

I wouldn't be suprised if it has to do with some Microsoft update. Hello and welcome to TSG. The update only harmed an extremely small percentage of al the people who run XP but minorities tend to sound quite loud when things go wrong. Hopefully that's all sorted now until M$ publish a fix which complicates matters. You need a little Registry tweak to persuade XP to make allowances for your 16bit programme. Go StartRun and into the Open box, type regedit and hit Enter.

Select the File menu and then Export. Name the file something you'll remember and where it's going to be stored and click Save. Now you've backed up the Registry, you're ready to make a small change. Navigate in the same way you would in My Computer, to HKEYLOCALMACHINE then SYSTEMCurrentControlSet Control WOW and check that this exists. If it does not, create it:- 'DefaultSeparateVDM' and set the value to 'Yes'. Then, Navigate to HKEYLOCALMACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlWOW and find the String 'DefaultSeparateVDM'.

Again, if it is not there, you may need to create it. Set the value of this to No as this is presumably the only 16 bit applicaiton you have but Yes if there are others. Close the Registry using FileExit and give the machine two restarts. Try your installaiton again and see if this helped.

I'm running Windows 10 on a laptop with 8GB of RAM. I'm trying to install a game called 'Star Trek: Birth of the Federation'. I know this is an old game but I'd still like to play it. Now, when running the setup.exe, I run into the error: Insufficient memory available to run Setup. Close all other applications to make more memory available and try to run Setup again. I've already searched for this a bit and the problem seems to be that my computers memory is too large, causing a failure in the calculations of the available memory that the setup does. I've already tried suggestions like running 'setup.exe -z' from CMD to skip the memory calculations, but this doesn't work.

I hope someone can help me out here! Hi, and thanks for your reply.

I had already tried putting it in compatibility mode for several OS's. This had no effect, unfortunately. I'm not sure whether these settings are taken into account when running the setup from the cmd, but in any way it didn't work. Also I think this is not the problem. I think the problem is the actual memory in my computer, which apparently is too large (8GB). I need a way to prevent the setup from calculating the available memory. '-z' in cmd is supposed to do that, but this had no effect.

If you are running it from a command prompt is may not even be 32 bit, in which case there is no way you can run it other than by emulating an ancient OS. It is a 1999 release. There are quite a few communities relating to the game which may be able to help you run it. This is one Regarding emulation::: You MAY be able to run an older OS (like win XP) in a virtual machine (called Hyper-v) in which the game would run. You may be able to buy an emulator (cheap) which is a piece of hardware (or software) that would of course 'emulate' an older OS so the game would run. Hi Iris, I apologize for the delayed response. You may try to run Memory Diagnostic tool. If the above steps didn’t help, I would suggest you to run the memory diagnostic tool and check.

Refer to these steps: a) Press Windows key +X, select Control panel. B) Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.

C) Click on “ Administrative tools” and select “ Windows memory diagnostic”. D) Click “ Restart now and check for problems”. Hope this information is helpful.
